Things We Love: Kroger’s New Digital Coupon Downloads

Do you have a Kroger store in your area?  The Kroger family of stores is pretty extensive and includes Kroger, Baker’s, City Market, Dillon’s, Fred Meyer, Fry’s, Gerbe’s, Jay C, King Soopers, Owen’s, Pay Less, QFC, Ralph’s and Smith’s.  I’ve shopped at Kroger stores for years and have been pretty pleased with them.  For example, the Kroger store in my area is the only store in town that consistently carries the lactose-free milk my family enjoys.  So that alone is enough to keep me shopping there.

Recently, however, Kroger has introduced a wonderful new program for their customers.  You can go to their store website and link your customer loyalty card to it.  This enables you to load digital coupons onto your loyalty card and when you check out and scan your card at the store, the cash register will automatically debit the coupon amounts without your having to carry any paper ones with you.  Some of the coupons available are items we don’t use, but many of them have been products that we regularly buy and WOULD have bought anyway, even without the coupons.

In addition, my beloved word-of-mouth marketing company BzzAgent offered me a campaign to try out these digital coupons PLUS awarded me a special digital coupon download worth $5 off $25.  You can imagine I was DEFINITELY taking advantage of that!

In addition, Kroger is providing its loyalty card holders an amazing freebie on Fridays of each week:  a digital download for a free full-sized item.  Over the past few weeks, we’ve gotten the following items for free:

  • Colgate toothpaste
  • Canada Dry Ten Ginger Ale 2-liter bottle
  • Cheetos

We could have gotten a free bottle of Full Throttle….but we’re not really partakers of those energy drinks.

And yesterday I downloaded a coupon for our next freebie, a Gatorade post-workout drink.

But, back to the digital coupons:  Recently, I downloaded coupons for Lean Cuisines, Chips Ahoy (favorite husband snack), Pepperidge Farm cookies (we love the Ginger Men), Campbell’s Soup, Tostitos corn chips, Hamburger Helper (yes, I know, but sometimes you need a quick dinner option!), and Always Infinity pads.  Each of these items was already on sale, and then the prices were reduced even further by the digital coupons.  After checkout, I reviewed my receipt and discovered that I’d saved:

  • $11.59 from the in-store sales Kroger was running, and;
  • $27.94 from the DIGITAL COUPON DOWNLOADS!!!

To say I was happy is an understatement.  Thrilled is more like it!

I don’t know about you, dear readers, but in this economy we are always looking for ways to make our dollars stretch until they squeak.  We’re so happy that Kroger is helping us along in this!  Visit Kroger to link your loyalty card and start saving!

Enjoy!  –Wren

  1. Thanks for the tip – we have just started shopping at a new Krogers near us. We love the gas points. Would be thrilled along with you for digital coupon download savings – will check that out!

    • So glad, Sara! Oddly enough they didn’t post one today…but I’ll continue to watch. If you link your card to the Kroger website, and if they start the free Friday downloads again, they’ll send you an email!
