Things we love…The Mediterranean Diet…!

The Mediterranean Sea is a magical place that is comprised of many different countries. I’ve been fortunate to visit several of them and the places and people all share certain characteristics regardless of their nationality.

Embracing the outdoors, with restaurants and cafe’s everywhere you look. A calmer, centered way of life, strolling rather than dashing about. Taking the time to appreciate things, whether it be food, the sea, or all things artistic. Taking time for family and friends, eating and celebrating life together.

Visiting the Mediterranean had quite an effect on me and as I now live in a land locked state, away from the Ocean, I realize how much I miss that way of life.

So, short of visiting again, making sure we follow the same diet as the fortunate sea dwellers, I believe, will help us live healthier lives!

Key components of the diet:
  • Fruits
  • Vegetables
  • Whole grains
  • Legumes
  • Nuts
  • Olive oil
  • Using herbs and spices instead of salt to flavor foods
  • Reducing or eliminating red meat
  • Eating more fish and poultry
  • Drinking red wine in moderation

I remember healthy, happy, fit people everywhere….against a beautiful backdrop.
