Wow! What a read!
Author Natasha D. Frazier has a fantastic way with weaving a story and its characters, around your heart. And what a story this is!
Nina is riding the wave of her hard work and success in the calling she loves; speaking to large groups of women to encourage, exhort, and bless them. When she collapses after a large program and awakens in the ER to worried faces, she is told that something is not right; later, she’s told she has decisions to make. Because what’s going on with her is terminal; she can expect 30 days to live. One month!
Nina’s mind and heart go immediately to the one that got away (or, rather, that she pushed away); her college boyfriend Andrew, who’s now teaching with his doctorate at their alma mater, hoping to be taken on as a full professor. (Or, he’ll join the family business with his father, which he does NOT want to do.) Can Nina persuade Andrew to drop his responsibilities and fly to the Bahamas to help her to enjoy some of her last days in a gorgeous location?
So much more to come in this novel! And, despite the serious and sad consequences the book begins with, it is an absolute joy to read. Nina and Andrew are fantastic leads. Although both regret their breakup, they have passionately followed their gifts and callings to excellent professional positions; and that while maintaining their Christian faith as well. And I love Andrew’ heart towards Nina. He’s willing to drop everything to help the woman he adored; and still loves, without taking advantage of the situation in any way.
Nina’s and Andrew’s story is wonderful. Plus, we also get to meet Andrew’s family; his difficult father, loving mother (who’s still a bit suspecting of Nina), and his brother Darius. (Readers will be thrilled to know we’ll get to see more of them in future McCall Family books!) You will love this book. Vivid and beautiful locations, a heroine and hero you can truly root for, and a story that reminds us of the value of life and God’s faithfulness. It’s wonderful!
