Natasha Frazier

Natasha D. Frazier fell in love with love around the age of twelve because of artists like Babyface, Boys II Men, Whitney Houston, and New Edition. Around sixteen when her mother purchased a romance novel and left it lying around the house untouched, Natasha read it and a spark for the written word had been ignited.

Natasha believes that writing is one of her purposes and contributions to the world. She feels accomplished when she can get a few words written and like blah when life gets in the way. Her hope is that at the end of every novel, readers will feel like they’ve been wrapped in a cozy blanket with a mug of their favorite coffee/tea/warm drink. When she isn’t reading or writing, she is likely watching movies with her family. Natasha resides in Richmond, TX with her husband, Eddie Frazier, Jr. and their three children, Eden, Ethan, and Emilyn. Her greatest joy and commitment is to her family who she hopes to inspire above all else. One of her many mottos in life is: Faith removes limitations. Natasha and her family attend Parkway Fellowship in Richmond, TX, where she volunteers as a small group leader for elementary students. Natasha is also a member of the Houston Area Alumni Chapter of Jackson State University and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

My thoughts about With Every Step

Although With Every Step can be read as a standalone book, it’s an incredible companion book to its predecessor in The McCall Family Series, With Every Breath. In that book, we meet the McCall family for the first time: father Jeffrey, mother Rose, eldest son Andrew (plus his beloved, Nina), and Darius, the younger brother. The McCall’s family business is an elegant resort in Georgia, featuring beautiful lodgings, farm-to-table crafted meals, family activities, and a wellness spa. While Andrew has been away, earning his professor stripes and teaching at Jackson State University, Darius has been working for Jeffrey in the McCall resort, earning (as he’d put it) his own stripes; proving to his father that he is worthy and capable of taking over the family business as CEO. Until Andrew comes home and their dad appoints him CEO instead of Darius.

You can imagine Darius’s feelings; betrayal, anger, irritation. So now, with McCall Resorts preparing to break ground on a second resort in the Houston area, Darius is prepared to do anything to make the new resort a success; and again, to prove himself to his father. When he discovers that the CEO of the construction firm they’ve employed to build the Texas resort is a woman, his (apparently) mid-20th-century values spring to the forefront. He probably doesn’t *really* think that a woman can’t run a construction company; but anything that could get in the way of Darius’s proving himself must be addressed, and that done quickly.

His first meeting with Kennedy Slaughter, CEO, doesn’t leave her impressed with the man she’ll be working with. Jeffrey and Andrew are kind yet businesslike; but Darius quizzes her and challenges her without a lot of respect. She does feel that she proved herself well, though. Just one thing troubles her: the spark she felt when they shook hands!

You do just know that those sparks are going to turn into a fire. But author Natasha Frazier, who knows how to build a good romance, treats not only her characters but her readers with respect. This is a clean romance. And when problems do crop up, you’ll be surprised at the direction from which they come. But you will hope that Kennedy and Darius will succeed in their budding relationship. And you’ll also hope that the wounds within them will have a chance to heal.

I loved seeing the family McCall again, and to see a bit more of Nina’s and Andrew’s unfolding story. The grounds and buildings of the planned resort (in Texas) and the current one (in Georgia) are so beautifully described that they made me actually want to visit this fictional vacation spot! I also adore Frazier’s understanding of and use of Scripture. There aren’t a lot of Bible verses mentioned in this contemporary romance; but one particular parable of Jesus’s came to mind for me again and again. Human nature hasn’t changed that much since Biblical times (if at all); yet a beautiful path waits for those who choose to trust God. The question for both Kennedy and Darius is if they will trust Him over their own plans and judgments. You’ll have to read With Every Step to see which way they’ll go. As for me–I was just glad to read at the end of the book that there is another McCall Family book on its way!
