The new Lifeway Women’s Bible ~ a review

#sponsor #partner

I received the most fantastic new Bible for women to tell you all about! It’s the Lifeway Women’s Bible and it is gorgeous. It is a study Bible that is packed full of maps, devotionals, inspiring words from a variety of Christian teachers (who are also women!), and ideas to help you grow in your faith. Let me tell you more!

About the Lifeway Women’s Bible

Published by Lifeway and designed especially for women, this Bible is perfect for the serious Bible student, the newbie to the Christian faith, and everyone in between, including teens all the way through women in the mature years of adulthood. The version or translation is the Christian Standard Bible (CSB). It’s available in several colors (butterscotch genuine leather, camel cloth-over-board, gray-mint leathertouch, and marigold leathertouch). It comes in a quite sturdy slipcase. Its 1938 pages (plus 4 front-and-back pages of maps at the end) include:

  • Bible reading plans, including The Bible in 90 Days, Daily Bread (The Word of God in a Year), and a Three-Year Reading Plan
  • An extensive concordance
  • Bible Genre (or book type) intros which contain a short description and key passage reading plans
  • Word studies–over 25 of them!
  • Over 30 charts, tables, and maps
  • Over 100 articles alongside key passages for application and reflection, especially for women and the life needs they’d express
  • 40-plus character profiles of key women in the Bible
  • Reflection and application questions
  • Devotional thoughts and inspirational quotes
  • And, all the extras are written by Lifeway women, like Priscilla Shirer, Gloria Furman, Kelly Minter, Lysa TerKeurst, and tons more

Each book of the Bible has an introduction which contains its timeline (where it falls in human history), plus sort of biographical information: its author; what its Big Picture is; key verses; and a book summary. And, segments of each chapter are divided and titled, as you can see below in John 14.

You can also see an example above of some of the devotional thoughts, as Mary Jo Sharp discusses John 14:6 in A Closer Look.

Each Scripture page also has a wide margin, which can be used for journaling or written prayers.

My impressions of the Lifeway Women’s Bible…and how I used it

I LOVED this Bible!

The leathertouch cover is soft and smooth and a pleasure to hold. And the marigold color is so gorgeous! It made me feel happy just to pull it out of its slipcase and open it. It is a heavier Bible, but it is worth it for all the bounty it contains. The print style and size are easy on the eyes. The binding enables the Bible to lay open to the pages you’re reading, without the need to hold it or place something on the page edges to keep them from closing.

Some of my most-respected Christian speakers and Bible teachers are featured as the authors of articles and devotionals. And I do love that it’s focused on me, a woman, and shaped around the life experiences I have had–although many of the articles speak to the Christian experience as a whole, rather than to one gender’s or the other’s.

I’ve enjoyed reading the Christian Standard Bible translation. I do like to read from different versions and I loved the breath of life that the CSB brought to my reading. It isn’t dramatically different from my preferred translations (the NASB, the NIV, or the NLT) but it is different enough that it impacted me in a wonderful way.

I used my Lifeway Women’s Bible both for devotional reading and for deeper Bible study (you can see in the photo above that I’m starting a Galatians study). It worked so beautifully for both. I love that the devotional passages, quotes, and articles can engage me more deeply on a person, a word, or a thought. And, there is such a variety of them! In this same Bible you can read articles on:

  • God Who Is Unchanging (by Jennifer Rothschild)
  • Meditating on God’s Word (by Priscilla Shirer)
  • Encouragement for a Restless Heart (by Sarah Doss)
  • Ministry During Suffering (by Gloria Furman)
  • Christ, Our Debt-Taker (by Angie Smith)
  • Where’s Your Identity? (by Colleen Searcy)
  • Character profiles on women as diverse as Miriam, Lot’s wife, Lois and Eunice, Elizabeth and Mary, and many more
  • Word studies: for example, Yoke, Immanuel, Righteous, Trial, Hope

It is a joy. It’s a beautiful Bible, it’s a delight to open it, to read it, to study, and to enjoy all its extras.

The Lifeway Women’s Bible is one that I’d love to give dear ones as a gift. I recommend it for graduation gifts, for birthdays, and for holidays. Or, if you are needing a new Bible for yourself–this would be a lovely gift for you to purchase, for your own study and enjoyment!
